Importance of Time in Islam

Time is such a valuable asset that not even the biggest treasure can be compared with it. Time is an irreversible resource which has the greatest value. We are created in a place which is bounded by time and space therefore we also have a limited time to be here, in this very world. Islam has laid emphasis on useful utilization of time.

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w said: Bukhari 8/421
Ibn Abbas narrated that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said:"There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) health and free time for doing good."

This hadith is true, in this fast age, we do not care about our health, and most importantly, we do not care about the time which we have today. We spend all of it in chatting, sleeping sitting idle and forget that we will be standing in front of ALLAH swt with our amal nama, which needs to be filled with good deeds if we want to be close to ALLAH swt and HIS good people on the day of judgment.
In another hadith, Muhammad s.a.w.w said:
Narrated Abdullah Bin Mas`ud Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said:
"A man shall be asked concerning five things on the day of resurrection: concerning his life, how he spent it; concerning his youth, how he grew old; concerning his wealth, whence he acquired it, and in what way he spent it; and what was it that he did with the knowledge that he had."

So, we will be asked how we spent our life and what we did. This hadith indicates that this life is amanah of ALLAH swt and we have to take care of it if we want to know answers of all the questions mentioned by Prophet s.a.w.w in above hadith.
Similarly, in another hadith, Muhammad s.a.w.w said:
“Make the most of five things before five others: life before death, health before sickness, free time before becoming busy, youth before old age, and wealth before poverty.” Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 1077.

We should see how much time we have to do good deeds today, because leaving the good work to be done tomorrow is sheer nonsense, who knows what will come tomorrow. Therefore it is wise to spend the free time today so that we can fill the register of good deeds today without thinking of doing it tomorrow.
When we arrive in this world, our clock starts ticking backward not forward. As the moments are passing, we are left with less and less time to live in this world and less and less time is left for us to do good deeds. We need to be more dutiful and should prepare for the hereafter because this is the examination hall, the real home will be the hereafter.
in holy Quran, ALLAH swt says that He has not created us because we will benefit HIM any way, the simple purpose of our creation is to adhere to the duties and fulfilling them on time. We cannot understand the purpose of our creation if we do not understand that we are here only for a short period of time.
The importance of the time is also described in Quran, Allah swt has said:
Holy Quran: 7:034
“For each community, there is a predetermined life span. Once their interim comes to an end, they cannot delay it by one hour, nor advance it.”

This verse gives us the clear indication that once our time is over, there will be no extra minute given to us. Yet many doubt this reality and truth and they deny that we will be here only for a small period of time.

ALLAH swt says:  Holy Quran: 6:002
“He is the One who created you from mud, then predetermined your life span, a life span that is known only to Him. Yet, you continue to doubt.”
