Love of Allah swt

In a hadith, it is mentioned that Allah swt loves us more than (or equal to) seventy mothers. This means that love of Allah swt for us is beyond count. It is not enough to just know that Allah swt loves us. We need to prove to ourselves that we deserve the love of Allah swt. Allah swt say in Quran;

“Say (O Muhammad): “if you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic monotheism, follow the Quran and Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [3:31].

Allah swt is our creator. He knows our short comings and He knows our strengths and weaknesses. In order to acquire the love of Allah swt, we need to follow what He sent to us. Take the example of our parents. If we obey them, they will love us and they will be more careful about us. If our parents can return our obedience with love then Allah swt has created love and He has it for us beyond our imaginations.

Prophet Muhammad pbuh said regarding Allah's love for His man;
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘if Allah loves a person, He calls Jibrael saying, ’Allah loves so and so; O Jibrael love him.’ And make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the heaven: “Allah loves so and so therefore you should love him also, and so all the inhabitants of the heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasures of the people on the earth.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

This hadith tells us and shows us a glimpse of Allah's love. When Allah swt love a man, He makes everything to love that man. Thats so wonderful. Who would not want to have that much love. Of course we all want to be loved by others. If a world is out there to love us, that would be more than just amazing. Therefore, the obedience of Allah swt is returned with immense amount of love and blessings. In another hadith,  prophet Muhammad pbuh told us about Allah's love;

Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that Allah said: “I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of mine. And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My worshipper keeps on coming close to Me through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him, then I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hands with which he grips, and his legs with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (refuge), I will protect him.” [Al-Bukhari].

This beautiful hadith contains so much in it. This hadith tells us not only about the love of Allah swt but it shows us a whole new picture of love. In this world, the very definition of love is only to become mad for someone. In fact, the modern sufi muslims think that dancing for Allah, singing for Allah, being mad for Allah is the love for Allah swt. This is all so wrong. The ahadith quoted above and the verse mentioned in the start make it all clear what love of Allah swt means. We do not have to be mad about Allah swt to love Him. Loving Allah swt means total submission while being totally rational and completely true. If we do something for show off, or if we do something which is not an act prescribed in islam, then our actions are vain and they have no meaning.

Love of Allah swt does not require any rocket science. It only means for us to be sincere and honest. The more a muslim is sincere, the more God fearing he will become, and that means acquiring love of Allah swt.
