Lying is Haram and a big Sin in the view of Islam. a person who lies once will have to lie again and again to hide his lie so lie becomes root of lot of other problems. Quran and Hadith stops us from lying on many places. Lying In Jest is also forbidden.
on one place Quran says Indeed Allaah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar. on other hand Truth can be difficult to speak but speaking truth is a virtue and a sign of true Momin.
